Why a spring
Foam packs down in months and gives nothing back. A steel coil compresses about an inch on every step and returns 50% of the impact. When it finally wears, you swap the coil, not the boot.

The Prime Work Boot Safety Toe and Outback Hiker Safety Toe carry an ASTM F2413-18 composite toe, which is what most warehouse and industrial footwear policies ask for. The coil itself is a chrome-plated steel spring; the covered-coil models enclose it, which some sites prefer. Not every policy is written the same way, so check the spec against your safety officer's list. If they want documentation, email painfree@zcoil.com and we'll send the spec sheet.
They're a work boot, so they're heavier than a sneaker, and the coil adds some weight at the heel. Most people stop noticing it within the first week because the spring is doing work the rest of the boot doesn't have to. The Outback Hiker is the lighter of the two styles if weight is your main concern.
It depends on your weight, your spring strength, and how many hours you're on it, so we don't quote a fixed number. What we can say is that the coil is a serviceable part: when it's lost its spring, you replace the coil from 69.99 rather than the boot, and the insole can be swapped any time too.
