Need a Half Size? Simply Size Up.
Z-CoiL doesn’t make half sizes, but every pair includes a 3mm insert to fine-tune the fit. Just order the next whole size up (e.g., if you wear 8.5, order 9) and use the insert for a snug, perfect fit.
Z-CoiL Footwear generally runs true to size. Please order the size you normally wear. If you wear a half size, we recommend ordering the next size up.

Adjusting for Half Sizes
Follow the instructions below to adjust the half sizes. Z-CoiL does not manufacture half sizes. However, every pair includes a 3mm insert to adjust the fit. If you are between sizes, follow these steps:
1. Remove the Insole: Take out the Z-CoiL insole from the shoe.
2. Insert the 3mm Half-Size Insert: Place the insert inside the shoe where the insole was.
3. Reinsert the Insole: Put the insole back on top of the insert.
This adjustment helps achieve the perfect fit for half sizes.
Spring Strength Guide
Z-CoiL shoes come with four different spring strengths, predetermined by shoe size. While most customers find the factory settings ideal, some may need adjustments based on their weight or walking/running style.
Spring Strength Recommendations:
- Small Spring: Women's sizes 5-7 (up to 150 lbs)
- Medium Spring: Women's sizes 8-11, Men's sizes 8-9 (120-200 lbs)
- Large Spring: Men's sizes 10-13 (160-240 lbs)
- XL Spring: Men's size 14+ (220 lbs+)
Tip: Aim to compress the spring about 75% during normal walking. If you "bottom out" (fully compress the spring), consider a stronger spring. If the shoe feels too stiff, you may prefer a softer coil.
Requesting a Stiffer Coil: If you prefer a softer or stiffer coil, please add a note to your order at checkout. We will gladly exchange the coil to suit your needs better.
Width Options
All Z-CoiL shoes are designed with a wider toe box to reduce irritation in the toes and ball of the foot.
Width Descriptions:
- D Width (Wide): Available in the Freedom, Legend (all), Olivia, Sofia, Toffler, and styles.
- E Width (Extra Wide): Available in the Outback, Prime, and Sidewinder styles.
Choose the width that provides the most comfort and accommodates your foot shape.

Can’t walk without it
I work in the warehouse walking and standing on hard floor all day. Z-Coil steel Toe boots help my feet. I can’t wait to tries Freedom Classic Brown.
8th & 9th pairs
It’s been 15 years since I bought my first Z-Coils, and have 5 pairs still in service. I won’t stand or walk without them now, even just to make a simple meal, or copy a small file at work. For me they are a god-send. I have a very bad back with lots of pain. I have 3 lumbar discs that leak contrast, and 4 vertebra with large cavernous hemangiomas augmented with cement. When I made my first visit to a Z-Coil store, I had stopped walking with a heel strike and sort of moved with a glide. We had to spend 20 minutes teaching me to walk again because my compensatory movements were so deeply ingrained. I may still hurt and use a rollator when shopping in a big box store, but these Z-Coils shoes have kept me out of a wheelchair. The other fancier shoes I had just take up space in the back of my closet, because these shoes make me feel so much better even just moving around the house. If you have back pain it’s worth getting at least one pair and see how they work for you.
