Tie Your Shoes Faster and More Securely

Tie Shoelaces Faster and Better

You do it every day without even thinking about it. You’ve done it the same way your whole life and never questioned it. It’s just part of your routine, as automatic and effortless as brushing your teeth: we’re talking, of course, about tying your shoes. But what if there was a different way to tie your shoes? What if there were ways to tie your shoelaces that make the knotting process easier, faster, and less likely to come undone?

Here at Z-CoiL, we’re all about finding a better way: whether it’s making your shoes fit better with a custom insole, letting you try Z-CoiL footwear risk free for 30 days, or inventing unique footwear for pain relief and stress reduction, we’re no strangers to innovation for the sake of improving quality of life. And something as simple as tying your shoelaces is no exception!

The plain old shoelace knot is the one most of us are already familiar with. It’s the one we were taught as small children, and the one we’ve been using ever since. You might have noticed, though, that it doesn’t always work the way it’s supposed to. Some shoelaces, especially very round or very skinny ones, are prone to coming undone from the default shoelace knot. Having your shoes come untied isn’t just annoying, it’s downright dangerous – in 2015 a young girl tripped over her own shoelaces and lacerated her kidney.

The problem is that the shoelace knot is designed to be untied effortlessly, but this means that it can even untie itself! Luckily for us, there are some savvy shoelace-tying enthusiasts out there who’ve developed better ways to tie your shoes:

If you want a simple modification to the shoelace knot that will stay securely tied, the surgeon’s shoelace knot is your best bet. It’s the same as the shoelace knot you grew up tying, except you pull the second loop through the middle one extra time before pulling it tight. Or, to impress your friends with a fast, slick-looking knot that might as well be a magic trick, check out the Ian Knot, which the inventor calls the world’s fastest shoelace knot.

It will probably take a little practice before you can pull off these knots as effortlessly as the regular shoelace knot, but learning a new skill is never a bad thing! Pick up a pair or two of high quality shoelaces from Z-CoiL and start improving your life, one secure shoelace at a time!
